Who is Taylor Luczak. He was mentioned in the article as another big body.

According to Mississippi State's Official Atheletics site Site...... Taylor Luczac is listed on Mississippi State's track and field team as 6-8,210 freshman(throws). Also, lettered 4 years in basketball, and played basketball in Empire Games and on the AAU circuit.

CHN provides a lot of college basketball info, ect., and I thank them for the write up, still I see Mississippi State a lot higher. Also...Dickie V's Preseason Top 40 has Mississippi State rated at #36 in the nation. This team will eventually be very good. Give them some time.

We may move up into a top 40 spot by season's end, but my early season enthusiasm is muted. However, if Ravern turns out to be what I think he can be, and if Romero and Dee can make an immediate impact, I could see a top 40 spot.

Yet still, there is history working against us. I can't remember a true freshman at MSU who came in a made an immediate impact. Barry and Ben made eventual impacts their freshman year, but not before 2/3's of the season was in the books. However, the chances of them contributing early are much greater than the chances were for Barry and Ben. Barry and Ben had the Delks in front of them. Phil and Brian Johnson would appear to the be only obstacles to immediate impact for Romero and Dee.

We'll see.

As long as the Freshmen can make an impact starting about the middle of January, the team will be fine. Freshmen don't have to contribute from "Day One" although it would be nice. As long as they can contribute through most of the SEC schedule, that should be enough. I think we have at least 2 newcomers this season who WILL make a significant contribution to the team.

Woody has gotten worse every year. I guess it gets easier to defend when it never changes. Let Rocky take over.

Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!

Basketball player notes....

Jarvis Varnado- Dominating shot blocker with a devepoling offensive game. Looks and is a little bigger/stroger. Will help cover this team. Starter.

Barry Stewart- Injury coming fine. Experienced shooting guard with a solid stroke from the perimeter. Makes plays. Expected to start.

Demarquis Bost- This kid is mature, understands the game, and can out flat hoop. Again...Can flat out hoop. Expected to start.

Ravern Johnson(Starting wing)- Electrifying athelete, though fairly raw, has been smoothing out his game, and is set to open eyes on both ends of the court. Expected to start.

Brian Johnson- Big/Strong veteran player with solid post skills. Talented, good basketball thinker, team player, and leader. Has big potential, and has been coming along. Has been mentioned as a possible starter in the post.

Kodi Augustus- Outstanding perimeter shooter and good overall scorer who has been working hard to improve on the defensive end. Been hitting the weights hard, and is pushing for playing time/starter.

Romero Osby- Big, strong, multi talented forward that can more than hold his own with the returning post players, and is in the mix for playing time/starting at the 4 spot.

Elgin Bailey- Big/Strong power forward is in the mix for playing time at both post positions. He's a good rebounder and post defender with scoring ability that will play a lot. He'll bring it. Post rotation mix.

Riley Benock- Good basketball player with outstanding shooting ability. Perimeter rotation mix.

Antiquawn Beckham- Talented athelete with very good playmaking potential. Has a big upside, and is in the mix at the point.

Phil Turner- The atheletic guard has been making a good showing during the off season and in preseason work outs. Turner will bring it, and will help add more experience to the perimeter rotation mix.

Jaquiese Holcombe- Very atheletic wing, good perimeter defender. Has scoring ability. Noted leaper. Perimeter rotation mix.

Note: These kids listed as in the rotation mix...are in the mix for for starting, playing time, ect. as well, and are set to help the team. Long ways to go.

Dee Bost fast breaking with Mississippi State's talented atheletes sounds awesome. Same with Antiquawn Beckham. Rick Stansbury and the staff will have these kids ready to play.

Romero Osby is an NBA type talent, and is very capable of stepping up with a big freshman season. He's very, very skilled, and some scouts have projected him as a possible one and done player. He and Kodi Augustus, both bring a lot of versatility to the 4 spot, and have upsides as eventual small forwards.

Heres another read on Dee Bost.

The Charlotte Observer, N.C., Langston Wertz Jr. column: Bost reaches academic crossroads.(Column)

Byline: Langston Wertz Jr.

Apr. 15--I am rooting for Dee Bost. Bost is a 6-foot-3 senior guard from Concord High. Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. Looks you in the eye when he speaks. Says "Yes sir," and "Yes ma'am" way too much.

He's got thick braids, bright eyes and a happy smile. A good kid. Dee Bost is also the best high school basketball player in North Carolina. His game isn't missing much. He can shoot from long range. He can get to the rim about whenever he wants to. You can't steal the ball from him and he seems to play his best when the games matter most. In the past six weeks, he's been MVP of the N.C. 3A Western Regional, MVP of the N.C. 3A state championship game, and MVP of an all-star game between top N.C. and S.C. talent. Saturday, sure enough, he came off the bench to win co-MVP of the Charlotte Pro-Am All-Star game at Vance High, producing 25 points in about 20 minutes.

Next fall when most of the other great in-state talent goes off to college, Bost says he'll be going to Hargrave Military Academy, a private school in southwest Virginia that is known for producing major college talent. Bost is going to improve on his academics instead of having Dick Vitale screaming on ESPN that he's a diaper dandy.

The hope here is that Bost gets it together at Hargrave and goes to a major college campus soon after that. "He can definitely play ACC basketball, I think," said Butler High's Demontez Stitt, who has signed with Clemson. "He has it all." In the past, I've seen many other talented kids, who had it all, go off to prep school or to junior college with so much promise and potential. Some made it. Some got caught up and never did. Too many, actually. A kid like Bost should make it. I was watching him do his thing Saturday -- hitting six 3-point shots and dominating the best lineup in the 15-year history of the Charlotte Pro-Am event -- and I remembered that every time I've seen him play, in football or in basketball, he's been the best player.

"American Idol" judge Simon Cowell calls it the "Wow" factor. Bost has it. But I also watched him Saturday and wondered what happened academically. In past interviews, Bost has admitted he's had a role to play in all this. He said he's going to make academics a priority.

I hope so. I want to see Dee Bost trot out on national television one day and show everyone how special his game is. I don't want him to end up as another story of a great high school player that never got out of his hometown. Somewhere, a great player is reading this and is disregarding his studies. Stop. Please. As for Bost, I can't help but hope this young man, this good kid, reaches all the goals that he should and could. He's way too talented not to. IN MY OPINION Langston Wertz Jr. ------
