11-5 or 13-3

Personally, I think it will take 11 W's to win the west and 13 wins to claim the regular season title. 13 wins is a tall order even for this team's expectations. Can TN win 13, I don't even know if they can win that many, so saying that, 8-8 won't even get you a consolation prize this season. Anyone who watched this team play at the Hump late in the season knows if they can turn that magic on when they go on the road, Houston we have a chance. But, but, but, we have to transfer that magic onto the road. Which means, we need " The Return of the Road Warriors". We know we can win at the Hump but can we win on the road? I think the tournament in CA will be a pretty good indication. But I will stick to my guns, TN will be very, very good, KY will be good, and FL will surprise some folks, but it will take at least 12-14 wins to take the SEC. I know we have the guns, but can we put it together to win the regular season title, we'll see. How may wins do you think it will take to win the west or the regular season title?

I think with Gordon at PG we will be in every conference game. If the perimeter shooting is as good as anticipated then it will be difficult for a lot of teams to put us away. As for degree of difficulty....

@ Arkansas - Only the road warriors won there. Even when Arkansas has been less than stellar we've struggled mightily up there. Looking bad in most cases.

@ Alabama - Uh-huh. Just about the same situation. We played them very well in a road loss last year. This is developing into one heck of a rivalry and there's no love lost. I wonder if it means as much to the players as the fans ?

@ Vanderbilt - People are overlooking Vandy because of thier losing Byars. Well they still have Shan Foster, experience at PG and a 7'0" Australian FR that might be the newcomer of the year in college basketball. Andrew Oglivy is a proven commodity in International play so you know he's very advanced for a true FR. Projected as a 1st round pick in 2008.

Tennessee - Our toughest home game in conference. I think this game is circled as they will be top 10 material at some point in the year. We nearly beat UF at home last year and this UT team is not in that stratosphere. We can go 8-0 in home SEC games if we take care of business here.

Kentucky - We get them at home too. They have great perimeter players in Bradley, Crawford, and especially Meeks. Patrick Patterson was an enormous recruiting haul for Gillespie and he will offset some of thier loss with Morris. They aren't to be taken lightly.

@ OMS - Always an adventure.

@ Auburn - Darkhorse team in the SEC. We've been very successful down there but you can't take them for granted this year.

SUPRISE LOSS - Happens every year.

It's pretty amazing to reflect on the road warriors. They just refused to lose. Especially in those memorable games @ Ark, South Carolina, and Alabama. I believe the game "slowed down" for Jamont towards the end last year and I'm pretty confident that we will be bouyant in most tough games due to his play and our perimeter shooting. ZD

hey ZD, great summation of some of the teams. you nailed it with Ogilvy comin into Vandy.

as for how i think we could/will do...12-4 in conference play, or 11-5. obviously, i hope it to be higher, but i would consider either of those records to be realistic, attainable, and also a well played conference season.

to win the SEC overall, id say that 14-2 or 13-3 would do it.

i still have a road warriors t-shirt from a 4 years ago. its seen some better days and the Mrs. REALLY thinks i need to retire it. well, i cant retire it till a new one comes out. so these guys need to win em on the road this year, if for nothing else than me wife no longer nagging me to get a new shirt!

11 wins is a really good number. Without really knowing the team dynamics it's difficult to go beyond that number for me. Capable of 13 wins ? Sure. If the chemistry is there.

If LSU and OMS come on stronger than expected at the bottom it could be yet another year when 9 or 10 wins puts you in the thick of SECW title chances. ZD

With the mental toughness of Gordon, Hansborough and Stewart I think its possible that we could be significantly improved on the road this year. However, 13 conference wins is going to be extremely difficult.

Also, there is a great article on Dee Bost in Scout's Hargrove preview.

I think 10 wins will be enough to win the west. But, I think we'll do better than that. I can't see us losing 6 SEC games.

I think we'll win 12-13 SEC games. If we do, I think we'll win the SEC outright.

There are some very good basketball teams in the SEC this year. It will be tough for anyone to win more than 13.

By the way, Rivals is counting down its top 64 teams with a week by week analysis. They are analyzing number 19 Syracuse today. They have us at 17. I think it is a daily thing. Here's the link:

I still say Ogivly is heavily overrated.

We played Tennessee and UK to the wire @ their places...I see no reason those games shouldn't be winnable at home.

@ Arkansas will be our toughest game all year.

@ Alabama should be a win, no doubt - one point loss last year @ their place, and they lose Steele/Davidson.

I see no game State shouldn't be capable of winning this season. With that said, I have the Dogs going 13-3 in my official prediction, tied with Tennessee for the SEC overall title.

well, with Tyler Smith playing at UT this year, that is most certainly something different. that is a player that is able to hang on the perimeter and drive past you till you look stupid. i say him play a few times at Iowa and he really is impressive. add him to a squad that lost only Bradshaw(the heart but not the talent) and they are improved.

UK is much improved over last year as well.

i think we can beat both those teams at home, but with both of them being better, it wouldnt suprise me if we werent able to pull out Ws in both.

ps, can the season get here any sooner?!?!

Is our mascot trying to be Paris Hilton or a Bulldog? Whoever's idea it was for that getup is laughing at us, not with us. Lets take up a collection to get another outfit. Please someone agree with me on this.

Bully's outfit? Paris Hilton? Help me out... I'm not sure what you are talking about, so I can't comment.

Don't think it should be that easy for UT, they haven't won any kind of a championship lately, and I don't think they have a really good sec road record recently. Pearl seems to like the us against the world, chip on the shoulder, get no respect stance so it will be interesting to see how he handles the favorites role.
Maybe its ok to let them be the favorite I like being the underdawg, let us prove the doubters wrong. Seems like we did that last year.

When TN comes to the Hump, they will enter will their heads high and that cocky attitude. They will have a deep team but Bruce Pearl has never been to the Hump, and he is in for a rude awakening. This TN will be good, but won't hold a candle to the FL of last season, one of the best teams of all time, and we went punch for punch with them and we have so much more this year. I have already figured out my Christmas wish list for this season. Dear Santa, I want:
1. New Truck
2. Sweet 16
3. Beat TN and KY
4. SEC Title
5. Sign all 3 commits in Nov.
That's it, not too much to ask for.
Merry Christmas

Tom Bully is so skinny, maybe we could make her Bullys better half, seem to remember having a lady Bully with an apron on or something. That has got to be that old outfit. Sorry probably doesn't much matter in the overall scheme of things, it just bugs me.

Just look up in the right hand corner, is that a thoroughbred or what. Bob Boyd would have loved to have had him. Hubert Henderson ran like a deer and shot like one, but he sure looked good in those all maroon warmups!

I totally agree that the key to this season will be "Road Warriors II"."Mental toughness, preparation and lots of rest in preparation for the road games.

The team that plays the best on the raod will win the SEC.Same is true for Divisions, best road team will win the SEC West.

Anyone have a "The Return of the Road Warriors" T-shirt?
