Breaking Down the Schedule - Thursday, 11/15 Clemson

WOW, lets not beat around the bush and let's play somebody. This will be good measuring stick right out of the gates for the Bulldogs. We were one shot away at the end of last season from a rematch. Clemson started off 17-0 last season before cooling off losing 10 of their last 14 games. They have just as many returning players (4 starters) as we do and have some high expectations. The tigers are picked as high as 4th in a rich ACC basketball conference. Two things you have to feel good about, we lost a close one at their place and Jamont Gordon has improved leaps and bounds since the game last season. This will also be an interesting game to measure our inside buys b/c Clemson brings back 2 of the top 8 rebounders in the ACC. Clemson 1-2 punch will come from James Mays and Trevaor Booker who is a double-double threat. The tigers biggest weakness, FT shooting, the tigers shot 57.8 % from the stripe. I am very interested to see how we improve on our interior defense, the Delks got taken to school by the bigger faster tigers last season @ Clemson. Look for Jerai Grant, NC's Mr. Basketball last year to contribute immediately. He can shoot light's out from beyond the arc and is the nephew of former NBA player Horace Grant. This game will consist of two teams that will likely not be playing their best ball yet. If there is a early slip up @ the Hump, this could be it. Look for a good game, and we'll just have to see who can come out on top.

if that Grant guy was NC's Mr Basketball, what was Bost? wasnt he voted something all state for basketball?

Clemson looks pretty darn good this year. they really do. that Mays guy kept his name in the draft for a bit, and actually got some looks from NBA teams. he is a solid PF and our big men(read Rhodes) will have to be on their game for this one.

i didnt know they were so bad from the stripe. that is darn near pathetic from the line, it really is.

i hope the Hump is packed and ROCKIN for this one. i could see us needing every advantage possible to pull out a W, and if/when we do, itll be a great W for our team early in the season. itll help lay the foundation for goin out to SoCal and playin well there.

Sorry guys, but it won't be close. The team Clemson faced at home, is not even close to the team they'll be facing AT THE HUMP!

We'll win by at least 10! It's THE HUMP, for crying out loud. But, I like the fact that ya'll think it'll be close, it makes me get even more excited about the game!

Clemson is good. But, they'll go down hard. Can you imagine how pumped up our team is going to be for this one? The Hump will be rocking. It'll feel like March in November.

I'll have to agree with Tom. This game won't even be close. I'll agree we'll win by at least 10. Remember last year @ Clemson we started Stelmach, we had 3 freshmen (Ben,Barry and Jarvis) get major minutes after being out of high school for less than 6 months. There starting lineup was mostly upper classmen. Reggie had one of his worst shooting games of the season. Jamont scored under douple figures. He was relying totally on his jumper at the time.

Enter the new season where those freshmen has gone through a full SEC season. And yes it did help going deep in the NIT. The new class of freshman has outstanding talent, more so than last years group.

Instead of having Stelmach in the middle you'll have Brian Johnson or a much improved Vernado since that Clemson game.

These or also the type of games Charles normally step up for. Last year he had what? 20 points? And this could be a potential matchup of two top 25 teams and since it's so early int he season, i'm sure this one will be shown nationally.

But the Biggest advantage we'll have is playing at the HUMP. Just remember Florida State and Mr. Thornton. That game wasn't even close. Clemson get's blown out. We'll see Iupe and Billy this game.

Mays is very good. Rhodes was sitting with early fouls, but still appeared to have his way against Clemson in the second half. Rhodes looked seemingly unstoppable.

they enter a new season where all their guys went thru an ACC season, and went even deeper in the NIT.
im just pointing this out cuz it kinda seems like a wash then.

its real interesting to see that we are playing a top tier team so early in the season.
must mean we have 'arrived'.

I have been holding out signing up for the website, but I'm here now. This is a great site, thanks to everyone who participates.

I agree with the blowout victory. We are just too good in the Hump to lose against a mid-level team like Clemson. It was downright nasty everytime an SEC team came into the hump towards the end of last year. We won by an average of 20 points, literally.

JG is a top 3 pg in the nation, rhodes is a top 10 big man when he is motivated, and he will be motivated this year after the NBA showed him he's not what he thinks he is. And the rest of our players are fantastic role players.

We will dominate borderline top 25 teams at home.

I see a close game the first half, and State pulling out a 10-15 point victory in a high-scoring event.

Dee Bost was not "Mr. Basketball" in North Carolina, but he was voted the North Carolina High School Athletic Association "Male Athlete of the Year".

I have seen him rated as from the 4th to the 6th best player n North Carolina last year, which basically makes him "First Team All-State".

Also he was usually rated as either the best or second-best guard in North Carolina last year, but "Mr. Basketball" he wasn't.

thanks for clarifying that.
