Player Progression Series Part 6 - Charles Rhodes

Charles Rhodes He will be our starting power forward. What do you want me say about this man. Two years ago he played his best ball with his back to the basket. Last year, he played facing the basket and didn’t perform as well as he did his sophomore year. He has the maturity and athleticism to be a great player. He has a great ability to score from 12 feet in and needs to pass the ball off if he is cut off. He needs to be aggressive under the basket in his rebounding. He showed us last year that is a decent free throw shooter. This has improved somewhat and hopefully it will continue to improve as the season goes on. I feel his biggest need to improve his consistency and effort, play hard and rebound and put backs. If he does these things this year, he does have the chance to take it to the next level.

Rhodes no doubt has the talent and potential to make the NBA, but he will never make it if he doesn't step up his game and have the sense of urgency he had at times during his sophomore season.

Rhodes' game reminds me some of A Jamison that played at North Carolina a few years ago. He is capable of playing away from the basket and will probably have to on the next level. However, I believe he is most effective on this team playing close to the basket.

If Charles Rhodes made the concious decision to come out and play all 35 or so games next season with FIRE, with 100% effort, he could be the best forward in the SEC!

Rhodes often looks as good or better than Alabama's Richard Hendrix. When he's on.....He's dominant.

If,If,If....If Kobe scored 70 every half we would forget about Michael. If Tiger wasn't human he would beat everyone by 20 shots.

Rhodes upping his averages to be 14.5ppg and 8rpg, along with continuing his 2bpg would mean a dominant season for MSU as well as a good chance of him being drafted next year.

those numbers arent much higher than what he has done the last two years, but that little difference would be HUGE for us.

I went back and removed posts that I had made that didn't measure up to Col 4:5,6 (http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=Col+4%3A5-6)

Here is the edited original post:

I fault Stans for much of Rhodes "muted" season. However, he must learn to play with the same emotion and confidence he exudes in interviews! I feel like the coaches have muzzled Charles a bit. They need to turn him loose this year and let him TALK and play.

Arliss or Bully001... am I wrong about getting the sense that Stans has muzzled the BIG TALKING Rhodes?

If not, tell them to take the muzzle off and let the man play!

Think back to the Arkansas game in the SEC tournament. He was manhandled and often backs down when the opposing forward/center gets a little physical with him. Rhodes, thus far in his career has been alot of big talk and done very little leading by example on the court. His grade in the leadership category is an F also.

I don't see why you guys are getting all warm and fuzzy regarding Rhodes. He'll never sniff an NBA arena. You guys are in denial.

We won the west with him. Have the pigs won anything lately? One game doesn't make a player, the 6-7 power forwards that can't jump (bama, ark) are the ones that will never make it. He is an all conference player, whether he gets his due is another thing,we all know we don't get any respect at MSU. The media has its favorites for sure.

Rhodes does have the potential to be the best player in the SEC, but until he puts out 100% every game, he won't be in the NBA.

Hopefully, with Varnado/Bailey/Johnson breathing down his neck and this being his last year to impress NBA scouts, he'll turn it on this season.

Maybe he will take a look at what Randolph Morris did. To me he was one that didn't look like he had his heart in it until last year.

I love it when little ole Msu kicks butt in the big bad sec. With all the resources the other schools have aren't they jealous, and here we are with 5 division titles. The media would be shouting from the rooftops at any other school, calling them a dynasty.
