Talked to Chalres Rhodes This Evening

I talked to him in Flowood this evening, pretty amazing how big he is for his quickness, told him that this was his season to shine, very polite. Looking forward for Charles Rhodes playing night in and night out.

Rhodes is an okay guy....but he needs to step up his effort factor.

Charles Rhodes is a very talented post player, and can dominate in the post when he's on. Rhodes helps make up one of the top front lines in the nation for the 2007-2008 season. This group is very solid. Varnado is reportedly bigger and stronger. Both he and Brian Johnson will be in the mix. Also.... The freshmen, Augustus and Bailey, have lots of potential. Ravern Johnson is an outstanding shooter, and with his height and length will be counted on to help out up front in addition to being a key on the perimeter. Don't under estimate the new guys. They'll improve as the season goes on. Rhodes is the most experienced in this group, and is set to be the leader. Charles Rhodes, and the up and coming Mississippi State front court will get a big test early against James Mays, and the very talented Clemson front court.

My fearless prediction ( maybe hope ) for CR's final season.

First, he begins the year as inconsistent as ever. Someone else emerges as a scoring threat, maybe Augustus, and Charles just turns in his typical 12 ppg 5 rpg.

Later in the year, the chemistry improves and perhaps Augustus is guarded heavily at that point and has to make the extra pass. Charles in charge again, finally being the player everyone thought he could be.

There's too much talent on this team for Charles to be a focal point. Then again, maybe that talent will allow him some favorable matchups as the season wears on.

The keys for unlocking the CR enigma boil down to team chemistry, and other teams inability to double down on him. He will go wild if Varnado and one of the freshmens step up. ZD

Hey Kurt its obvious you are a Bama fan by reading your blog and your negative comments.
Don't see how Bama can be as good as last year with steele in limbo and davidson gone. Just because they were bad last year doesn't mean they will be better now. Looking through your crimson glasses. Humble yourself you guys don't have to get all the praise all the time. Winning isn't everything.

I'm not going to delete comments just b/c I don't like them, but this is a Blog about MSU Basketball with a Christian theme, it goes against it when foul unapproitate language is used.

Censorship is uncalled for, as are attacks on specific posters calling them fans of a rival program.

If you're going to censor, do it evenly. I for one am not going to continue viewing this blog if censorship is this unfair.

I don't want to see this post highjacked by back and forth comments on censorship or the allegiance but I haven’t seen where Kurt’s comments have been that bad. It’s just his opinion. Do I always agree? No. However, I’ve looked back and I just haven’t seen the consistency of negativity.

I think Rhodes at his best when close to the basket. He is quick off the floor and has a great turn around jumper. Fortunately we have enough talent on this team that we don't have to have Rhodes to be successful. However, he is talented enough to take us to another level if he has his head in the game.

I don't want this turn into a site that you frequent b/c you only like to see the glass half full side of things or b/c you been kicked off someone's site, but any foul language will be deleted, I not going to say that is the only thing that will get your post deleted b/c their will always be things that come up that are unexpected. I like to think I have a positive attitude when it comes to this blog and our program b/c Rick, his staff and his players and the program are a very positive part of our athletic program. Two things right off the bat I don't approve of is foul language and personal attacks on players or coaches. As long as you know the difference btw critisizing(spelling wrong) someone and personally attacking someone everything will be great.

Just so all will know, I deleted Kurt's comment because he used some foul language, this blog does not allow me to edit part of his comments, just to delete the whole thing. His post was not deleted b/c of negative comments, it was b/c of foul language. I like different views, if we didn't have our own opinion, we could all stop reading this blog and just go pick up a copy of the newspaper.

i understand you wanting to keep foul language off of here. that isnt too much to ask.
and as for the Christian theme, thats cool too. if you dont like to read the Biblical passages, then dont.

this site is far better than any other that ive seen when it comes to basketball and offering(and allowing) multiple opinions.'

I apologize for the foul language.

Accusing an MSU fan of being a 'Bama fan is just wrong. Check out my "About Me" page - I'm a student at State. I'm as passionate an MSU fan as there is.

I'm just objective. I see things how they are.

Rhodes has all the potential in the world - I don't doubt whatsoever he could win SEC POY - but he just doesn't have the motivatiton.

After re-reading my comments that were directed toward Kurt in an earlier post (3:22 p.m.), I realize that my "speech... [was not] gracious, seasoned with salt." Please accept my apology. I'll make it my aim to do better.

Here is the reference to "seasoned with salt."

"5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."

Here's think link if any of you would rather read it in context.

Definitely a good scripture to keep in mind as I begin to type away!

Kurt Do you know Charles personally? I know we all have our favorite players and least favorites, and we all have someone that we want to blame for our lack of sucess et. all the quarterback of our favorite team. Just don't know about questioning ones character, I'm sure Charles wants to win as much as anyone, maybe he just know the best way to go about it like all of us. To coin a phrase I heard in church " dont throw the baby out with the bath water" he has his falts like all of us.
Just hope we dont get on someone elses bandwagon if Charles struggles a little. Saw it with Todd Merrit, Chance Nichol, Joe Courtney, and the other Nichols, we were left with the least talented character guys and what happens. Low and behold Todd is caught smoking dope and we make a quick exit from the Ncaa. We all need Jesus, we all need mercy, encouragement, reconciliation. God can turn anything and anyone around in an instant. Can I get a witness!

No, I don't know Rhodes personally - but I do see the obvious laziness that comes through in his game. I've also seen him try about 90-95% and he's an absolute monster when he wants to be.

It's all about effort, and I'm hoping we'll see it from him this year.

You will be a good coach Kurt. Hope that you don't use reverse psycology to get the most out of your players. Hope they play hard because they love you and don't want to let you down. "Faith works by love" and "Love never fails".

The compliment is appreciated. I will expect a lot out of my players, but expect a lot out of myself for them in return.
