Scotty Hopson's Summer Improvement and KY Ranking

I came across this article trying to explain why Scotty is a top ten player nation wide player and didn't even make the all state teams. Interpret it how you like, I still think there is a KY bi est there.

Always good to here Scotty confirm his commit.

And if that wasn't enough, check this out:
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070916/SPORTS11/709160573/1002/SPORTS,
Scotty the number 3 player in state of KY, come on don't make it so obvious. I know Mackey is a IU commit, but #3, sorry but the real recruiting sites won't concur with that one. Hang in there Scotty, you'll get your chance in Jan. 09 at Rupp arena to show who the best player in KY for 08 really is.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the ranking discrepencies. There are obviously 3 high major recruits in Kentucky and we got one of them. Sure the local/ state media has a blue shaded bias, but that doesn't effect how good Scotty is once he arrives on Campus.

I haven't the other guys but in watching Hopson live, he's got a rare combination of athleticism/ size, and SKILL for his position. If the other guys are really better than him then you'll have 3 Kentuckians going lottery in a few years. That's a measure of talent that commonwealth pencil jockeys have no say in.

Hopson played uninspired ball last year. he has said as much himself, and plenty of watchers have said the same.
going by that, he isnt the best player in the state.
but going by his summer on the AAU circut as well as his play in camps, Hopson is the best player in the state.

seems to me that he has put himself in this 'situation'. i use that world loosely because i wonder if he really cares(or even should care) about being viewed as #1 in the state by the Courier-Journal. is it really even a 'situation'? who knows. but he did this to himself and if he plays his senior year of HS ball the way he played over the summer, there wont be much reason to keep him from being viewed as the best of the'08 KY class.

If he is as quaility a guy as we all hope he is, he'll be more cncerned about having a "winning" season this year than he will about State Newspaper honors. And if they win, then the honors will take care of themselves.

Boys, we are in for a great few years of basketball at MSU. Who knows, we may even be turning the corner with Croom's grid iron Dawgs as well. Great win this weekend.

I saw him play at UHA and I've also seen him play AAU. I've seen a lot of SEC basketball players in thier HS basketball context and they all appeared to play "uninspired" if that's what you want to call it. Defense isn't played at the HS level like it is at the college level.

The night I saw him play against Caldwell Co., he "uninspired" his wat to 27 points. At the same time, you definitely could tell that he was slack defensively. Heck, the whole team was in disarray it seemed.

If Scotty were headed to Lexington, believe me they'd be saying that he'd learn to play defense with effort. That's just what he'll do in our program.

At the very base he's a good person and a solid student. He's not a prima donna the way the sour grapes people portray him. With his abilities, he could be but he isn't. If he were he would have been a jerk with the recruiting process and play different parties against each other.

The way he's handled his committment protray what kind of person he is. ZD

Hopson is going to be a lot of fun to watch at State.

I've been thinking about making some t-shirts that say Beam Me Up Scotty with a Star Trek/Basketball theme for folks to wear to home games when he arrives on campus.

In addition to Kentucky's "sour grapes" the story I have heard about Rick Bolus' rankings is that he runs a for-profit summer camp, and the people who come to his summer camp ( like Bud Mackey did)he rates higher than those who don't ( Like Scotty). So with Bolus, the rankings are "bought" so they don't really mean anything.
