ESPN's SEC Preview

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2976255

Charles Thomas? No respect.
Picked 2nd in West behind Ark.
We return 2 of top 3 shotblockers. Jamont is 2nd leading returning scorer and top returning playmaker in league.

what are you referring to when you mentioned Charles Thomas and no respect?

also, why arent Barry Stewart and Ben Hansbrough listed as the 2nd and 3rd returning 3pt fg% shooters??
last year, Barry made 68 of them at a .391 average.
also, Hansbrough made 47 of them at a .412 average.

im assuming they have a minimum attempts requirement, otherwise someone who went 1 for 1 would be atop the list.
but i know Barry should have made whatever the minimum qualifications because he had more makes than the second listed shooter, Terry Martin from LSU who had 52 makes. so clearly Barry had enough shot attempts.
Barry had more makes, more attempts, and a higher 3pt fg% than Martin. why wouldnt he then be listed?
and Ben had just 5 less makes than Terry, but a much higher fg%. perhaps 50 makes was the minimum, that would be a number that would allow Martin to qualify but Ben to not qualify.

regardless, Barry should definately be up there in that category. he has more makes, more attempts, and a better make% than the second listed player.

another reason why ESPN is the worldwide incompetent leader in sports.

oh, but other than the complaint in that rant, i like their choices in pecking order for both divisions.
i have a bias when i say that we are better than Arkansas this year, but they return last year's squad that took 2 of 3 from us, so there isnt much reason why i should say we are better.
i think itll be a real battle for first in the West...as always.

In the team breakdown they refer to Charles Rhodes as "Charles Thomas". Kinda of like the commerical during the LSU game, no respect from ESPN. I just checked it at 9 PM, they corrected the mistake. so that makes sense why it didn't make sense to you. I will check into stats, good pt mstateglfr. I will try to post contridictions by Sunday or Monday. Thanks for pointing it out.

I have done the research, the article is clearly wrong. Stewart attempted more than 40 more threes than Terry, and should be ranked 2nd on the list.

Outrageous.

I left them a comment on the site, and they have changed it, and added Barry.

Great job Kurt, I'm sure Barry would thank you if he read this blog.

I really like the makeup of this team in terms of talent and poise. Barring a sophomore slump Stewart, Hansborough and Varnado will make a great addition to the starting lineup. Additionally our perimeter players are versatile enough that we can sub and just shift the remaining starters to other positions.

I have predicted many times that B Johnson would start at the 4 with Rhodes at the 5. However, with the improvements and increased size of J Varnado, he may force a starting position. If he can stay out of foul trouble he could have a surprising season. Its amazing the numbers he put up with such limited playing time.

Also, if Augustus is as good as advertised then he could spell Rhodes at the 4 with B Johnson subbing in at the 5.

--and Bailey could come in as a big PF too. this would allow Augustus to step out and hang on the perimeter to stroke down 3s.
