MSU vs Arkansas

Not enough time to research the matchup in depth, but wanted everybody's comment on the game. For stats and more click here: http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/teams/page/AR

Luke 7:9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel."

Arkansas owned us in the SEC tournament semifinals last year. Their big guys made Charles Rhodes curl up in a fetal position. If Charles can "bring it" tonight we might have a chance. The question is has anything changed since last year?

I think the biggest diff. is that we depended so heavily on Dietric in the post by that point in the season. He was so battered that he couldn't take two days in a row of banging inside with the big guys. This season we have the depth to go head to head with Ark. bigs. I fear the Bud Walton arena much more than the team itself.

Good point. Arkansas without Thomas should help, too.

Early bracket from Rivals. Thought this was very accurate description of where Dawgs stand.

RPI: 53.
Best win: 88-68 vs. Ole Miss on Jan. 26.
Worst loss: 67-60 vs. Miami University in Anaheim, Calif., on Nov. 25.
Behind the choice: The Bulldogs have won nine in a row after some early season inconsistency and look like the best team in the SEC West. Still, there's no non-conference win of note and that could hurt down the line in terms of seeding. They play at Arkansas on Wednesday, then play host to Tennessee on Saturday. Wins in both of those, and the Bulldogs can start dreaming of a No. 4 seed.

Last year, Dawgs ran 4-guard (Slater was only 6-4) and had freshman Varnado and Goodrich off the bench. This year we start Rhodes and Varnado with Bailey and BJ off the bench.

Dawgs play bigger and are better prepared to take on Arky. My guess is Stans considered Arky our top West competitor and decided to play Rhodes and Varnado in order to compete with Arky.

Arky returned their top-7 players from last year. If Dawgs played 4-guard again, same thing would happen. Dawgs are different this year... part the reason we started out 5-5 was this transition.

I look for Gordon to defend Weems and Turner/Stewart to defend Beverley. If we shut down those 2 guys, stay even on boards and hit some timely 3pts... we win.

My only fear is... refs. Bama first half was incredibly biased. We might not survive those calls at Arky.

The cream rises to the top. Let the Big Dawg eat.
