Breaking Down The Schedule - Saturday 1/12 Georgia

Last season we did not play well in Athens. The Bulldogs return Mike Mercer who was lost to a knee injury last season and was a difference maker on this team. Mercer is back and he joins Sundiata Gains in the back court which should be the strength of this Georgia team. Georgia has a deep front court with size, but no one has stepped up and become a star yet. Georgia was averaging 90 pts per game before mercer went down so look for much of the same this year. This is Felton's fifth season, so the pressure is on for an NCAA bid. The Georgia fans will look for production after the completion of a 30 million dollar practice facility that will house practice facilities and coaches offices. The lack of experience up front should be exploited by MSU, but look for this this game to be a chance to see how our guards match up with their athletic back court. If we can defend their guards we should be OK, but Georgia is a team that can get hot at times. I give MSU the nod because our perimeter defensive depth on the perimeter will be improved by the time we play the puppies.

Romans 1:5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

Georgia was an interesting team last season. they took down a strong(at the time) Gonzaga team, beat MSU, but also dropped games that were comparable to the previously mentioned ones.

i see that their practice center was $30mil. but Stans thinks $12-15mil will get what he needs? that twice as much! i really really hope the practice center isnt cheapened.

also, with Georgia losing those 3 players to academic suspensions, will that affect us when we play them? i think one of them is out for over half the season.
they were suspended for skipping too many classes and/or study halls. they are all technically academically eligible, but the suspensions were handed down by the coaches.
odd to see this sort of practice in the SEC.

also, the coaches force players to pay $10 each time an infraction like this happens. so amateurs are forced to pay money as penalties. the general student body isnt affected by this. it seems quite counterproductive to me for this policy to even exist.

When the practice facility craze started, Florida, Texas, and the other MSU all built what ammounts to day spas for thier basketball teams. I think Rick is a little more realistic and wants a basketball practice facility with offices, training room, and a film room.

The smart thing to do would build a indoor court with the above features adjacent to it. Then show plans for a 2nd phase and raise money to complete that in 2 or 3 years.

It's a bit overwhelming to think about a 30 mil facility like UGA is building. It makes more sense to be practical and leave the door open for the extras. If we get our butts in gear and make a few NCAAT runs with all this talent then things will work out. ZD

ARLISS - do you not read my blog, man?!? Mercer received a 15-game suspension beginning AFTER he is cleared medically to play. He will almost certainly NOT be available for the MSU game.

With that said, this should be a resounding MSU win.

Sorry Kurt, I figured he would be eligible by the MSU game.

yeah, ill be the first to admit that i dont know what the ammenities of the other facilities are, and if a lot of it is frills or not. while we probably dont need anything like a 10,000gal koi pond with cascading waterfall out front for show, i sure hope its nothing like a tin roof shack with concrete floor...ya know?
the coaches want function, and i totall agree, but if is gonna be used as a recruiting tool, id think a little flair would be nice too.
but in the end, i really cant even imagine what $15mill can get you...much less $30mill...ya know?

Been away for awhile. This'll (how's that for southern MS english) be a resounding W for the real DAWGS (MSU of course)!

The Georgia frontcourt is also good.Takais Brown was (is) a load inside. But I think we have some guys that can defend him and score against him as well.Georgia has a lot of talent.
