Great Question

A great question was asked by an anonymous poster. I think it should be a post topic.

Will this year's freshmen have a bigger impact than last years?

IMO - It seems the closer we get to the season the more this class is getting hyped. I don't remember last year's class being this hyped. Ben, Barry, and Jarvis made a diffrence in the outcome of last season. I think the newcomers will have an impact, but not as big of a diffrence simply b/c of the players we have in place now. - Arliss

If they can contribute as much, we should be in good shape. Reading a little into what your saying about Barry, Ben, and Jarvis just might be the real kicker. Generally the biggest improvement of a player is from his freshman and sophomore years. Looking at what Jarvis and Phil did during the summer and how Ben seemed to get stronger as the season progressed could bode well for the sophDawgs.
Stans should have a good idea how to bring the freshman along and can gauge their progress compared to last years group. I think(a feeling) this group could be as good or better. Should be a lot of fun in the Hump!

I think this years team will be more freshman-friendly. What I mean by that is we have a more experienced and established team now. It's a more stable structure and the guys aren't struggling to find their niche. The freshman won't have to deal with much pressure to preform but will still get some minutes. They'll have good tutelage from the older guys and the chance to impress people without the game relying on their performance. It will be interesting to see these guys for the first time.

Only Stans knows how mature the freshman are and there's got to be a lot of speculation at this point without a practice under any ones belt.
Would be interesting to get Stans thoughts. The pieces of the puzzle look to be there.

Jdarg....The transition that last years freshman made was impressive, they seemed to be aggressive from the start, maybe because they saw a good opportunity to get playing time. Hope this years are just as opportunistic. I think you are right about good chemistry from the older Dawgs, should be a match made in Dawg heaven.
We were still a young team last year and like you said we should know our roles more this year.

I think Augustus and RSF Turner will make a pretty big impact. Ravern Johnson will get spot minutes and we'll see some of his shooting ability.

It's harder to say with Bailey and Benock. You have to think that either or both have the prospects of redshirting. Although I think there could be some need for Bailey in relief. ZD

I believe freshman these days are generally more mature than in the past, with all the summer camps and such, but you still see a bit of hesitation on a lot of freshman in certain situations even at the end of their freshman seasons. They just don't feel comfortable in situations that are to big for them.
Unless he is someone that feels he is as big as the stage is, those special ones. Basically I guess it doesn't matter what age you are if you are a confident player.

Augustus looks solid, are we gonna get a group picture on the State website.

I'm interested to see updated pictures on returning roster. Only freshmen have new pics on MSU website.

I believe Turner and B Johnson will get most of the "newcomer" minutes. I think the rest will get spot duty due to either strength or lack of defense issues. I can see R Johnson in limited duty as a spotup shooter at the "3" and Augustus or Bailey used if we get the starters in foul trouble or depending on the situation.

I still predict starters as being:

1- Gordon
2- Hansborough
3- Stewart
4- B Johnson or C Rhodes
5- C Rhodes or J Varnado

Turner subs for the perimeter with R Johnson subbing some a the 3.

That gives us a solid eight man rotation with the others playing as needed.

I see last year as the exception rather than the norm.

However, I will predict that next year S Hopson will most likely start and Dee Bost will play alot.

My goodness we are loaded. Next year ought to be interesting as well. Goodness, we'll have barry, hansbrough, jarvis, august, turner, ravern, brian, bailey, benock, bost, hopson, osby... are you kidding me! I remains to be seen just how solid these guys are going to be, but, dang! That's 12 pretty darn good players right there.

As to the impact this year's freshmen will have. They'll see a good number of minutes, but, I'm not sure they'll have quite impact last years freshmen had. I mean, Jarvis, Ben and Barry were integral to the success of that team. I don't think ANY of our newcomers will have the same kind of impact that those three guys had.

Still, I like 'em and I hope they prove me wrong!

Whats goin on? So I've been addicted to this website since this summer and had forgotten I already had an account for another website..Well alright here is an inside scoop..I know one of the 7 managers the basketball team has [yes he told me 7 and I was surprised (he's more of the waterboy but he works with the guys in the post)] and he said that no one is redshirting this year...That says a lot about the talent on the team (with the exception of Begley and Iupe)...He also said that Riley Benock set a 3 point shooting record in a practice they had...Wow can't wait to see him in action..He also said Kodi can shoot the 3 very ,very well...I can't wait only 37 more days till the season starts!

i dont think this class will have as much of an impact.
but thats because they wont be needed to do so. last year, there was a void that needed to be filled and significant minutes were part of that.
but this year, the void isnt as large.

im sure they will still make an impact, and i expect those that are ready to be utilized and not waste away on the pine.
but i dont think they will have the impact of last year's class. not to say they are less talented that that though.

With his size Ravern would be a big asset for perimeter defense, if he has the quickness he could be a huge factor. It would be great to have some length on the outside.

I hope we get to see a lot of the Freshmen in our earlier games against a few of the weaaker teams on our schedule.I'd like to see them each get a lot of minutes to see what they "bring to the table".

If they perform in practice, no matter how young they are, I think Stans will let them play in the games.
