Let's Talk Schedule
I've spent the last hour our so looking at the schedule, trying to figure out what games I can attend and so on. I am going to try to attend at least 13 of 15 home games, maybe both exhibition games, the away game at the Tad Pad, and the game in Jackson. The SEC home schedule works out great, 5 of the 8 games are Saturday games. Only 6 away games are not televised. The non conference home schedule is lights out with Mizzo, Miami, and Clemson even though 2 of them are on Thursday. The SEC home schedule is highlighted by TN, Ark. and UM on Sat and KY being the highlight of the mid week games (those 8 PM games aren't easy getting home at 1AM. 5 of last 8 games are on the road, so the SEC has to be won by the return of the Road Warriors. The big boys of the east are coming to Starkvegas. I'm going to break down the schedule game by game team by team in about 2 weeks. The Dogs are going to log some serious miles the week of Dec. 19, trips to Los Angeles, CA and then to Corpus Christi Texas in two days. This is heck of a home schedule and look forward to it. Ticket applications should be in the mail in the next couple of weeks and then we'll be selecting our seats again. One last thing, I am heading to Atlanta for my first SEC Tournament in March. Much much more to come. Can ya hear it. To the Hump for hoops! A good good evening and welcome to the campus of Mississippi State University for an afternoon of basketball, MISSISSIPPI STATE STYLE!!!!!

Player Progression Series Part 4 - Barry Stewart
Barry Stewart Known last year as “Mr. Cool.” He is unflappable. His IQ of the offense and defense is probably the highest on the team. He showed us his ability last year on his ball movement and his 3 point shooting ability. He also did a very good job at the free throw line. He still needs to develop his body strength, which he is doing. On defense, he needs to develop his defensive strength and aggressiveness. Also, I feel he needs to improve on his pull up jumper from 12 to 15 feet from the basket .A single biggest attribute he brings to the team this year is, “He is a clutch free throw shooter.”

Meet Talvis Franklin - New Director of Basketball Operations
Secret Agent Bulldog 001 had this to say about Talvis:
Talvis Franklin is the new Coordinator of Operations for MSU Basketball. I have personally known Talvis for the past 5 years and feel Coach Stansbury couldn't have picked a better man for the position. Talvis is 33 years of age, married and has children. He has been a manager for the team for the past 5 years and Senior Manager for the past 3 years. In fact, when I heard that Mark Price was leaving the program for another coaching position, I suspected that Coach Stansbury would move Marcus Grant into a full time Assistant position and started lobbying as much and as often as I could for Talvis to get the Coordinator's position. I could write a bio on Talvis, but I feel the attached bio written by Susan Hughes, MSU Athletic Media Relations tells his story better than I ever could. This appeared in Bullday Gameday program on February 14, 2007 for the MSU vs. Arkansas game. Talvis' picture was also featured on the cover of that Program. At the end of Mississippi State's bench sits a student who has been a part of Coach Rick Stansbury's basketball program longer than any other. Most fans don;t even know his name nor will he ever be seen in game action on the Humphrey Coliseum court. However, don't underestimate his contribution to the team, because senior manager Talvis Franklin carries the spirit of the sport in his ever-present smile. "I live by the motto 'if you find a job you love, you will never work a day in life' and there is no greater love in life than basketball," Franklin revealed. "Even though I am only 5 feet 7 inches, I love basketball more than any other sport out there. A senior teaching and coaching major at State, Franklin has found a way to incorporate his passion into his future, but upon graduation from high school things were not so clear. A mere 10 credit hours away from completing an associate's degree at Itawamba Community College, Franklin decided instead to enter the working world. Initially leaving school behind to enter the 'real world,' he eventually changed his mind about his education and career path. "it was one of those things where you say this is just not for me," Franklin recalled. "So I went back and graduated from ICC and decided to come to State." Having arrived in Starkville with his mind set on devoting his life to basketball, Franklin, a Tupelo native, set his sights on finding a way into State's basketball program. Although he had not been a manager in high school, a meeting with assistant coach Phil Cunningham put him on the path to becoming one at MSU. "I made it my priority to become a part of this program and I have every day since then. I've lost a lot of friends because it takes so much of my thime, but you have to sacrifice some things to get other things," Franklin noted. "I wanted to learn the game and I figured with the staff we have here that I couldn't go wrong." In the time he has been a part of Mississippi State's hoops program, the team has tasted success with Southeastern Conference titles as well as NCAA Tournament appearances and top 25 rankings. But no matter what the situation or what the season holds, Franklin has been there with a cheerful disposition and a smile to help make sure everything is taken care of for the team. "People think that we just cheer on the bench and that road games are like a vacation, but we work really, really hard," Franklin admitted.I love the travel, but it is a lot of work. During games I am busy tracking hustle plays, along with how many times a guy is in the passing lane, as well as trying to keep our guys motivated." Being a manager for an SEC basketball club is a full-time job, one that Franklin is glad he doesn't have to shoulder alone. This season's youthful Maroon and White squad is supported by seven managers, including fellow fifth-year senior Andy King, who are able to split up the numerous daily tasks. Though the work can be tedious and time-consuming, Franklin is able to see the big picture and understand how every experience is educational. "Basketball is not just a game. The things we go through on the court teach us real-life situations," Franklin explained. "The biggest thing I have seen is that if you approach a situation lackluster then that's what you are going to get out of it. But if you are giving 110 percent then that's what you are getting out of it. There is always a lesson being learned out on the court and you can equate it to anything. Franklin indeed gives 110 percent in everything he does. In fact, he could already have graduated with his degree, but teaching and coaching is not enough for him. He knows there is a lot of competition out there for physical education positions in schools and he has taken on additional emphases in sociology and social studies to become more marketable. And he knows there is more he can do for the team. "I could have quit school and gone back to working, but I wouldn't get the satisfaction from winning or from showing a guy something that will stay with him for the rest of his life," Franklin beamed. "A lot of people don't realize you have to train and raise young men - men who have to lead other young men - so it's not just about basketball in the locker room." While being a senior manager give him the opportunity to teach, he is till eager to learn whatever comes his way. Franklin has a laundry list of people he has net over the years and friendships he has developed with athletes, coaches and managers across the country, but he believes none have been as beneficial as the relationships he has nurtured with member of the Bulldog coaching staff. "Coach Stansbury has been one of my biggest mentors and I have taken a lot from what he does and says and how he approaches the game on the court every day. We have a great coaching staff," Franklin said. "I put all of my efforts into basketball because I know it is going to pay off sooner or later." Franklin hopes his efforts will pay off in the form of a coaching position after he graduates. After watching practices on a daily basis for five years and helping track plays and statistics from the bench, he knows the game inside and out. Now, he is eager to put his knowledge to use and begin his own career. "I want to touch the game with my mind and pass along the fundamentals of passing, dribbling and shooting to young kids since most of them only pay attention to the big plays and they have no idea what the fundamentals are," Franklin stressed. "I know I will have to start small, but once that door opens what's when I will kick it down, go ahead through and keep charging forward."

Talvis sounds like he has earned this opprotunity and will make a fine addition to our coaching staff.

Recruiting Rankings
The first of the recruiting rankings are out for the 08 class. Our rival to the east is on our heels. Courtesy of the poster formally known as the Mystic.

Player Progression Series Part 3 - Ben Hansbourgh
Ben Hansbrough He was an enjoyable player to watch last year. He shot in the 40% range on 3 pointers, drove the basket pretty well and rebounded quite well for a perimeter player. His primary position this year will be shooting guard and back up point guard. He experienced a little trouble last year finding his roll on the team. He was moved back and forth between the 1 and 2 position. Now that he has settled into his roll, he just needs to continue to get better at his short range jumpers. He shot something just over 40% from 3 point range last year. But he’s not tall enough to get the ball up against some of our opponents this coming year. However, his percentage should improve on the long range shots simply because he probably won’t be taking as many. One thing he needs to improve on is understanding the game better. His free throw shooting was good last year and will be again this year. One thing he does bring to the game, every game, is toughness, energy and competitiveness.

How Are Our Opponents Recruiting?
I found this blog with someone else's opinion on how the recruiting is going in the SEC. We have a heck of a class, I don't think it would be fair b/c Dee could climb the rankings after a season at Hargrave.

If you go by Scout rankings, we are pretty even with Alabamer.

Player Progression Series Part 2 - Jamont Gordon
Jamont Gordon – What more can be said about this young man. We all saw how he came around towards the end of last season. He is the point guard. He has outstanding athleticism to go along with toughness. He has the size and strength to become one of the most outstanding point guards in the nation this year. He now doesn’t have to try and do it all himself. He demonstrated this towards the end of last season. His court vision has improved tremendously now that he is looking to pass off to other players. His assist to turnover ratio in the last 7 or 8 games last year ended up at 3 to 1 and we’ll see those numbers improve this coming season. His 3 point shooting last year was 37% and has gotten even better. He just needs to continue his development from last year and let more about letting the game come to him instead of trying to force the game. His free throw shooting was in the high 70’s last year and I think we’ll see that come in the 80’s this season. On defense, he has the size and strength to guard just about anyone. Probably his biggest attribute to this team is his versatility.

Player Progression Series Part 1 - The Team
This year’s basketball team has the desire and skills to go a long way. Because of this, we have set high expectations for the team. However, we probably need to temper these expectations somewhat. This is still a team of young players. Other than walk on, Billy Begley, this team has one senior and one junior and the rest are either freshmen or sophomores. Compare this with other teams in the western division like Arkansas with 7 returning seniors, LSU and Alabama , each with 2 McDonald All Americans. So please don’t get down on them if they lose a game or two that you expect them to win.

What's the Holdup?
Alot of the schedules for the SEC are already out, so whats the holdup for the MSU schedule? I talked to 001 and he explains why:
The only reason that the BB schedule hasn't been posted, although it is completed, is the coaches are trying to move the La. Lafayette game to Jackson. From what I understand, all the teams and game dates are fixed. If they are able to work this out, then I know we'll draw a good crowd down there.
Great news if this can happen, I look forward to the game in Jackson since I live right down the road.
Psalm 89:8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

I'm starting a new fourteen part series on the progress our players have made over the summer and what you can expect from them in the upcoming season. All of the info provided has been put together by Secret Agent Bulldog 001. 001 has been working for the last week or so talking with people that are close to program. This will an analysis of what he has learned during the interaction with those sources he wishes to keep secret. A different player will be highlighted in each series part. 001 has been working very hard on it and you only find this information here, hope all enjoy.

Well that took long enough, I personally had my doubts about Elgin up to about a month ago. I think he'll be a player for MSU and will leave his mark on the MSU BB program. Let's see, Scotty's commitment is solid, Elgin, Kodi in, once Scotty signs my Christmas wish list will be complete.

Reports Are Coming In
Reports are coming in now from more than one of my sources that Elgin Bailey is in. Kinda of cut is close, last day was next Monday. Big thing, I think Elgin could make a major impact in the post next season. If you haven't seen it yet in his bio, he once put up 33 pts, 26 rebounds and 14 blocked shots in ONE GAME. I don't care if your playing church league, that is pretty impressive.
What will we do?
The slowest time of the year for basketball has to be the 30 days before football kicks off. Now this year has been somewhat of an exception b/c of the Scotty Hopson recruitment and waiting to hear on the clearance of Kodi and Elgin. Still now word on Elgin. I have hear some third hand reports about some of the players looking very good during pick up games at the Sanderson Center. I have tried my best to post something everyday, but the last couple weeks before kickoff has been tough. Secret Agent Bulldog 001 is working on getting the coach's opinion on our current players on the roster. When the schedule is finalized, I will break down a different team on our schedule each day. How ready the fan base is for basketball will be correlated to how the wins and loses are stacking up for football team. By my count we have about 53 days until the basketball practice starts. I hope everyone can bare it until then.

January 9 @ LSU and it seems that we will not be playing a Sunday game to end the season this year with AL as usual. We will be playing LSU at home on Saturday March 8 to end the regular season.

His Name is Kodi Augustus, Now What?
Most people would say that they don't know much about Kodi Augustus. I've done some research and found some quotes about what people had to say about him.
"He's a Division I [prospect], and any time he gets the ball, he knows what to do with it," Reese said. "We did a better job in the second half of locking up on him and putting more pressure on the passer, making it more difficult for him to get the ball."
Interesting fact: Benard Rimmer also attended a Maine Prep School.
"Kodi Augustus is a more powerful finisher on the break and off the dribble drive."
"Augustus is a natural small forward with a nice shot from 3 point land. He is versatile enough, however to play power forward on occasion and can play down low."http://www.risemag.com/main.cfm?actionId=globalShowStaticContent&screenKey=NationalNews&&categoryKey=HotNews&articleId=6689#
"There’s a reason Augustus didn’t make the camp All-Star game. Its because he’s in love with his jump shot. Yes, he shot a nice 43% from three, and his stroke is improving, but he’d be more productive if he played on the inside right now. The fact that he was more focused on showing off his shot instead of helping his team win games might say something about his personality."
"At 6’9”, Augustus has legitimate pro potential. He’s a solid athlete, and has a variety of talents. He can hit the three, handles in the open court, and finishes. Like so many forwards at camp though, sometimes they try and do too much to show off their perimeter game, and Augustus was a bit too trigger happy. He has a lot of work left to do, but his physical talents alone should move him up the recruiting rankings."http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/recruiting/abcd/060706.htm
"Athletic forward showed a nice offensive game, and that along with his size makes him a real sleeper. He shot the ball well from mid-range and long range to the tune of 18 points in one game, and he has a good frame. High-major prospect. "http://www.hoopville.net/column/kasiecki.asp?EntryID=15035
Well, I learned little more about Kodi myself, sure would be some nice to see some video though. He looks to have a nice stroke. Saw a couple negative comments about him shooting too much, but if he can make 43%, who can complain? Alot of the comparisons remind me of Osby.
I leave all with this topic for the weekend, I'm going out of town and not taking my laptop, I'll be back blogging on Sunday, hope we hear from Bailey soon. Always keep your faith strong.
John 2:11 This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.
The Answer is:
"Mississippi State basketball signee Kodi Augustus has received clearance from the NCAA Clearinghouse and has been admitted to school, MSU compliance director Bracky Brett said this morning."
I answer is Kodi, not Elgin. For more info:http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070816/SPORTS030102/70816017
One more to go and we'll have a heck of a core of underclassmen, don't forget we only have 1 jr.-JG and 1-sr-CR and probably no seniors next season.

Romero Osby
I came across this on Romero sponsored through GBOA Hoops website. He has some nice comments that solidify his commitment. The pressure from KY has put all the attention on Scotty, but Romero will be a player too. I heard several people comment that Romero played with a guard dominated lineup so he never really had a chance to showcase his skills. He'll be a player at State and can't wait to see him play. The biggest question I have is which one of our freshmen for the 08-09 season will get freshman of the year in the SEC?
Matthew 8:26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Bailey or Augustus?
Seems to be some conflicting reports from both national recruiting sites about Kodi and Elgin this morning and their clearinghouse status. Hopefully we can get it "cleared" up soon. Check back soon.
Riley Benock
Riley isn't expected to contribute much this season, but you never know. The Mystic showed this to me. They are the words of a KY fan who saw Riley play and thought alot about him, thought it was interesting.
He's consistent to 25 feet and can get his shot. A 6'5" boy who may need some bulk to handle the rigors of SEC play but still quite the athlete. He has a true point guard mentality, a very good handle, and loves to chalk up the dimes more than the points. It wasn't until his senior year that he started to take control of the Meade offense but there is a reason for the lack of a scorers mentality.Riley played in the shadow of his brother Jordan who is on scholly at a small college which escapes me, and older brother was the high flyer take it to the hole guy while Riley looked to feed him the ball.He can stop in traffic and nail the long three, drive to the hoop and throw down the two hand slam (Capable not liable), crossover and score the mid range jumper, and seldom makes a mistake. Yet, his passion seems to be making the great assist and seeing a team work as a unit. Had he had more of a scoring mentality his first couple of years in high school, his stock would have been much higher his senior season. Ask any coach who went against him and they'll tell you...one man at the high school level could not stop the young man. But double and triple him, which everyone seemed to do, and Meade Co. was left with few scoring options. An honor student (national I believe) who participated in nearly every club or extra curricular activity available in high school. And a no nonsense young man very involved in the community, well respected and liked by his peers who will be the perfect college student/athlete imo. This coming from a fan (me) of Meade county's district rival and longtime dominant district foe North Hardin High School...if I may ;)I guarantee you Hopson likes the idea of playing alongside Riley Benoch. By his sophomore season i fully expect him to challenge for the start at point for RS. ..and RS expects that also I hear.
I think in due time Riley can be a player for MSU, but he seems to be a good candidate for a redshirt this season.
Acts 11:24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

Big or Small?
The last two seasons MSU has fielded a small lineup. Most of it was only possible with the likes of Dietric Slater. So one of this years question is are going big or small. Dietric is gone and Brian Johnson is eligible. Kodi Augustus and Elgin Bailey also might have a thing to say about the matter. I love that Jamont is a great rebounder, but your point guard should not lead your team in rebounding, that is what the big guys are for. This really hurt us against Arkansas late in the tournament. Dietric was injured and just wasn't as effective with no rest in btw games. I think Jamont's style of play is too aggressive not to be top two in rebounding this season. But when shots are missed I like to see maroon and white under the goal, not at half court already. With the rotation of Charles/Jarvis/Brian, we should be able to field a larger lineup. I think we benefit over the long SEC season and come out better with a bigger lineup.

Secret Agent Bulldog 002
I don't hear from him very often and he won't even let me post a picture of him, but I talked late last night my other insider Secret Agent Bulldog 002. He said the Oak Hill Academy rumor started because the coach at University Heights is a big UK homer. There was talk Scotty may leave to get away from him, but supposedly the coach has been put in his place because Scotty went to the first day of classes at UHA. Even though the rumor windmill has been turning, it seems that it is all shaking out now and Scotty is still 100 % committed to MSU.

Scotty Heading to Oak Hill Academy for Senior Season?
Chris Diggs of the Courier Journal out of Louisville, KY is reporting that Scotty could be heading to Oak Hill Academy for his senior season. "Also, you can look for Hopson to be looking into Oak Hill Academy for his senior season." For more click:http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/catsfan/2007/08/recruiting-hits_12.html I don't know if this holds any water and how this would affect his commitment. I don't see how it could really help KY, b/c he has known his AAU coach Mike Artis alot longer than his new HS coach or the Oak Hill coach. I know we will all be watching.
Scotty better than Greg Monroe?
Found this interesting, Greg Monroe has been the top player of the 08 class the last 2 years on just about every one's top player list. Bob Gibbons, one of the top basketball recruiting experts puts together a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd all summer teams from the AAU summer league. Scotty made the 1st squad and Greg Monroe didn't, pretty interesting. Well, most people in the know would agree that Monroe is the best player in the nation, but it is interesting to see Greg being on a second team behind Scotty place there by some well respected or their opinion on basketball recruiting.

As the Basketball Turns
I can't take credit for this one, Zombiedog tracked this one down. The KY media will not give up until signing day. There are still rumors flying around. Anyway, here is some good info further solidifying his verbal brought to you by Zombiedog:
I spoke by email to a reporter from the Louisville Courier earlier this week that said that people close to Scotty were contacting KY. Found this funny bit, when the facts aren't in KY fans favor, it is considered negative pub.

No Game in Jackson???
It appears that there will be no game in Jackson, Kyle Veazy has some info on the schedule:http://www.clarionledger.com/misc/Blogs/kyleveazey/kyleveazeyblog.html
I am definitely not happen, especially with UM playing in Jacktown this year, this is what keeps the hold on Jackson recruiting. "State looks like it might make an appearance on ABC, too, with the Feb. 16 Arkansas game at The Hump." MSU on ABC, that sounds pretty good. Two games I want to win this season, actually 3. KY and TN, and ARK on the road. I still have bad taste in my mouth about TN and the refs, I haven't cursed at Jamont since. Its all unfolding now, but I am a little disappointed in the possibility of not having a game in Jackson. What is everyone else's feelings?

We Need Some Practice Facilites
A Step Forward for Hoops, by Maroon and White Magazine
Nice article on how bad we need a practice facility. We definitely need some type of capitol campaign for these much needed facilities.

Scotty Moving on Up
MSU commit Scotty Hopson has moved up the USA Today rankings. USA Today has Scotty ranked as the the # 9 player in the country, not too bad. Here is the rest of the list: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/recruiting/basketball/national/2007-08-07-basketball.htm

Shooters and Role Players
Last season it seemed like we had five shooters on the floor at all times. That is not always a bad thing from an offensive production standpoint, but overall I think it can cause problems. I think you need a minimum of one maybe two role players on the court at all times. The championship teams over the last 5 years had good role players. We easily have 2 shooters or "Go To Guys" in Jamont and Charles, but who will that 3rd shooter and 2 role players be. Ben and Barry can be shooters or role players, whatever is needed for each game. Brian Johnson just might be the role player we've been missing. I think there is little doubt that Ravern is a shooter (when he has the ball in his hands, he will have the green light from Rick to let it fly). So here is a list I came up with of shooters, role players, or both.
Shooters:Jamont, Charles, Ravern
Role Players:Brian, Benock, Phil, Kodi, Elgin
Shooters/Role Player: Barry, Ben, Jarvis
If this turns out to be true, notice that this list is not top heavy with shooters, it is balanced with shooters, role players, and players who will be both. This balance is what it will take to compete for the regular season title and get Rick to the Sweet 16.

Where's Winthrop?
MSU played the Winthrop Eagles last season at the Hump. They have released their schedule and there is no mention of MSU on the schedule. http://www.thestate.com/colleges/story/137691.html
http://www.winthropeagles.com/default.asp?section=2&type=story&id=4395
I guess the dates didn't work out, so that makes sense why our schedule isn't out yet. So I guess it looks like no return game with Winthrop.

Secret Agent Bulldog 001 Reports-Where We’re At and Where We’re Going!
I didn’t think I would ever be in agreement with the NCAA, but after printing out the Basketball recruiting calendar, I love ‘em….We are presently in a quiet period when coaches can have no off campus visits to recruits. This quiet period runs from August 1 through September 8. And now that the “no” text messaging rule went into effect August 1, we have even more protection from usurpers trying to get our commits to jump ship. However, this is a rule that our coaches don't like. Also, the rules state that between September 9 through October 5 is a contact period, but limited to regularly scheduled HS, Prep school and two year college contests/tournaments, practices and regular scholastic activities. If our coaching staff were successful in recruiting/baby-sitting our commits (Hopson, Osby and Bost) during this last open period ending July 31, then I feel very strong that we’ll see them sign their LOIs in November.
Now, where are we at? Two (R. Johnson and R. Benock) of our four recruits are already on campus and enrolled. The other two (K. Augustus and E. Bailey) have their paperwork in the clearinghouse and our staff feels good about them being cleared and enrolled for the fall semester. Elgin ’s paperwork was the slowest getting to the clearing-house because of waiting for the results of one course he needed. These guys along with the team still at MSU should provide us with a superior team this season.
Where are we going? There has been a lot of talk on the internet about L. Williams from Starkville and R. Harris from New Hope maybe becoming Bulldogs. I think you can forget that. They will both be academically short on qualifying. Both will probably end up going the Juco route. What are the names of some of the rising HS Juniors that our staff are looking at and evaluating for our next signing class. First would most probably be Shaunessy Smith (SG) from Macon (Noxubee Co. HS) Scout 4 Star, Then there is Jontaveous Sulton (PF) from Yazoo City Scout 3 Star and out west we find Renardo Sidney (PF) from Lakewood, CA Scout 5 Star. Keep and eye on these names as we go forward.
Well, as Bugs Bunny might say, “That’s all for now folks! And GO DAWGS!!!!

MSU vs. MSU
According to the Murry State athletic website they will be traveling to Starkville December 1. "The Racers venture into Southeastern Conference country Dec. 1 when they play a game at Mississippi State." For more info:http://www.goracers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=6700&ATCLID=1139578
The Racers were 16-14 last season and lost in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Your Favorite MSU Player of All Time
There is no question about it when someone asks me who my favorite MSU player of all time is, it's Derrick Zimmerman. He talked smack, and could back it up. I've been searching, but can't find the classic photo from the Clarion Ledger on Derrick standing on the press table with a broom after sweeping the Ole Miss. I was at MSU during most of Derrick's career and had the opportunity to know Derrick through being involved in the athletic department. Derrick didn't rewrite the record books for scoring, but Derrick played hard nosed defense and brought an attitude that personified our team. Derrick set all-time school records in career assists (514) and games played. He also ranks second on MSU’s all-time list with 205 career steals. While at State he helped lead Bulldogs to a combined 80-47 record, including a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, an SEC Western Division championship and an SEC Tournament title. Ever since Derrick left MSU I've been waiting for a guard athletic enough to hawk down player from behind, block a layup at the last second and run the point the way he did. Derrick's dishes flourished when Mario was the man, but I don't think there will ever be another Derrick Zimmerman. He's my favorite, who's yours?
Luke 5:20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."
