Riley Benock

Riley isn't expected to contribute much this season, but you never know. The Mystic showed this to me. They are the words of a KY fan who saw Riley play and thought alot about him, thought it was interesting.

He's consistent to 25 feet and can get his shot. A 6'5" boy who may need some bulk to handle the rigors of SEC play but still quite the athlete. He has a true point guard mentality, a very good handle, and loves to chalk up the dimes more than the points. It wasn't until his senior year that he started to take control of the Meade offense but there is a reason for the lack of a scorers mentality.Riley played in the shadow of his brother Jordan who is on scholly at a small college which escapes me, and older brother was the high flyer take it to the hole guy while Riley looked to feed him the ball.He can stop in traffic and nail the long three, drive to the hoop and throw down the two hand slam (Capable not liable), crossover and score the mid range jumper, and seldom makes a mistake. Yet, his passion seems to be making the great assist and seeing a team work as a unit. Had he had more of a scoring mentality his first couple of years in high school, his stock would have been much higher his senior season. Ask any coach who went against him and they'll tell you...one man at the high school level could not stop the young man. But double and triple him, which everyone seemed to do, and Meade Co. was left with few scoring options. An honor student (national I believe) who participated in nearly every club or extra curricular activity available in high school. And a no nonsense young man very involved in the community, well respected and liked by his peers who will be the perfect college student/athlete imo. This coming from a fan (me) of Meade county's district rival and longtime dominant district foe North Hardin High School...if I may ;)I guarantee you Hopson likes the idea of playing alongside Riley Benoch. By his sophomore season i fully expect him to challenge for the start at point for RS. ..and RS expects that also I hear.

I think in due time Riley can be a player for MSU, but he seems to be a good candidate for a redshirt this season.
Acts 11:24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

I think it was Ben Hansbrough that played some pickup with Riley during his visit. Said he could shoot well, but needed to get stronger.

He needs to jump right in and make a contribution as a FR because there is going be some serious competition for playing time. I assume he's a shooting guard and can play a little 3 in a small lineup. If all these guys can play then I'm sure we we will play smaller quicker lineups. In a few years we're going to be loaded at the 1-3 positions. ZD

Benock will improve the team's APR, and depth, if need be.

haha, no "Mr." needed, it looks like i am younger than you.

sometimes i wish we played 60 minute games so that our whole team could get some minutes and contribute.
call it Little League mentality, i guess, but having the opportunity to watch all our guys play and get meaningful minutes would be nice to see. Benock is one of those guys that it would be great to see play some meaningful minutes. from what Stans has said as well as the comments from the UK Scout site, he is a pretty good athlete and a PG that has some height. the G positions will be pretty filled these next few years, i just hope he(and others) are able to share minutes and sacrifice playing time for the greater good.

Dang,

That report from that Kentucky guy makes Riley sound like the next John Stockton!

I am one who got to see Riley play every game. I graduated with his brother Jordan a year before Riley. I loved watching the two play. And i gotta say, when it comes to a high school shooter, i've never seen anyone be able to just run down court, and instantly pop a jumper from over 23-25 feet like Riley. With no hesitation. One week I believe he was 11 of 13 from 3 point range. If it wasn't for being under the shadow of his older brother Jordan for 2 years that they played together, he would be ranked in the top 100 nationally.

that Kentucky guy also said that Riley may be the biggest surprise in this MSU group....described Riley as "a Kyle Macy with hops"
