Secret Agent Bulldog 001 Reports-Where We’re At and Where We’re Going!

I didn’t think I would ever be in agreement with the NCAA, but after printing out the Basketball recruiting calendar, I love ‘em….We are presently in a quiet period when coaches can have no off campus visits to recruits. This quiet period runs from August 1 through September 8. And now that the “no” text messaging rule went into effect August 1, we have even more protection from usurpers trying to get our commits to jump ship. However, this is a rule that our coaches don't like. Also, the rules state that between September 9 through October 5 is a contact period, but limited to regularly scheduled HS, Prep school and two year college contests/tournaments, practices and regular scholastic activities. If our coaching staff were successful in recruiting/baby-sitting our commits (Hopson, Osby and Bost) during this last open period ending July 31, then I feel very strong that we’ll see them sign their LOIs in November.

Now, where are we at? Two (R. Johnson and R. Benock) of our four recruits are already on campus and enrolled. The other two (K. Augustus and E. Bailey) have their paperwork in the clearinghouse and our staff feels good about them being cleared and enrolled for the fall semester. Elgin ’s paperwork was the slowest getting to the clearing-house because of waiting for the results of one course he needed. These guys along with the team still at MSU should provide us with a superior team this season.

Where are we going? There has been a lot of talk on the internet about L. Williams from Starkville and R. Harris from New Hope maybe becoming Bulldogs. I think you can forget that. They will both be academically short on qualifying. Both will probably end up going the Juco route. What are the names of some of the rising HS Juniors that our staff are looking at and evaluating for our next signing class. First would most probably be Shaunessy Smith (SG) from Macon (Noxubee Co. HS) Scout 4 Star, Then there is Jontaveous Sulton (PF) from Yazoo City Scout 3 Star and out west we find Renardo Sidney (PF) from Lakewood, CA Scout 5 Star. Keep and eye on these names as we go forward.

Well, as Bugs Bunny might say, “That’s all for now folks! And GO DAWGS!!!!

What makes you think Renardo Sidney is considering MSU? I'd be thrilled - he's ranked the #1 overall recruit for 2009 by Rivals - but he lists no interest in State. You know something I don't?

I don't think we have a chance, but I guess Rick and 001 does.

If you look at Scout's Basketball recruiting, you'll find those 3 plus Mason Plumlee (PF) and Jacob Jenkins (SG) have Mississippi State as one of their schools of interest.

I think Osby is our link to Sidney seeing as he was Renardo's mini-me on an AAU team last summer.

Having said that, I think the UCLA Coaching staff practically lives in RS's colon.

You never know what might happen between now and next year recruiting wise. By my estimate we will be working with one scholarship for the year unless somebody leaves. Shaun Smith is practically a gimme but we will be needing a big far worse. ZD

Zombie, I have never heard Renardo badmouth the State of Mississippi, but I just don't know if Renardo is worth the trouble. If he chose MSU, that would be Scotty (soph hopefully),Romero, and Bost 2nd season with Ben, Barry, and Vanardo as seniors. I know one thing for sure, Renardo has one and done and NBA on his mind as do his parents. The program was set back 2 years b/c of bad team chemistry, I don't think its he's worth it.

Where'd you get the info that L. Williams won't qualify? I went to SHS and Coach Carter (former State player) is typically tough on his players acedemically and knows the importance of qualifying. SHS does a good job educating the many athletes that go there and don't let them just slide through the cracks like some other schools.

Besides that though, im not sure L. Williams is the best fit here, the fact that he will be competeing for playing time may sway Osby a little, and we already have 2 big forwards coming in this year. I think if we offer him, he will be a bulldog. But he may find a better 'fit' elsewhere, and he has many choices.

Either way I trust Stans.

A recent scout article stated that Coach Stansbury was at tournment scouting R Sidney. Sidney is still young and could do anything at this point. He has been back to Mississippi several times. While I still predict he ends up at UCLA, the fact that Coach Stansbury is watching him has to say something.
