Exhibition Game

I hope all who can will attend the exhibition game today. It will be interesting to see our freshmen play against another team. Here are a couple of questions, will Jamont score over or under 30 points and which freshman will score the most. I'd have to say Jamont gets 30 + mainly at the FT line and Phil leads the charge with close to 20. I'll be filing a report later on tonight. If you have any other thoughts on your mind if your going to the game fire away.

How many fans?

from what i could tell thru live stats:

-we played 10 deep, which is great to see. we have so many new players that we need to see what they can do at this point in time.

-some of our poor play was due to playing 10 deep and the starters playing limited minutes.

-jamont sure didnt have good stats. 11 points on 33% shooting. 5 turnovers to only 3 assists. he did have 7 rebounds though.

-Jarvis played great with 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting. he still cant hit a free throw to save his life. he rebounded great with 11 total, and blocked 8 shots!! crazy!!

-Charles seemed to get good numbers, but couldnt hit the free shots from the line.

-Stewart started off slow but seemed to get some points down the stretch. and had 5 steals! and i see that he dunked it too!

-Hansbrough had 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, and shot FTs well. seems like a good job from him.

-U of C had 25 fouls. that is absurd. their game plan was to foul us and make us beat them from the line. well, since we went a horrific 20-38 from the line, their game plan almost worked out. that is an awful FT%.

so, pretty accurate summary? i dont put too much weight into the final score being so close because it looks like we were playing many people for experience. with that said, Jamont didnt have a good game. too many turnovers and too few assists. heck, we had only 10 assists total. that is WAY too low.

ha, remember last season's early games though? remember how many turnovers we had?!?! at least we didnt have that this time around.

Those Kentuckyites would have loved to have beaten the Dawgs. Thus the 25 fouls, sad. Sour grapes from the loss in the sec tourney, on the football field, and Scotty. Plus they did it to one of their own(Stans). Are we taking this game a little to seriously or what. God help us.

Is there that much to do in Mississippi that only 3500 show to see the greatest game created on the planet? Has to be a downer for the players, 5000 show at a Arkansas scrimmage and God knows what Kentucky could draw if they had more seats.

Sad that the media doesn't give us respect but sadder that our fans don't give our team any respect. This could be one of Stans best teams, what gives.

I was at the game today and we didn't shoot the ball very well. I was also at the scrimmage last week and we shot the ball very well. It didn't seem as if we we came out ready to play this game being an exhibition. the COC where very pumped and hyped. They played the entire game with a lot of energy. Remember this is where coach Stans went to school and it seemed as if he kept the dawgs locked up until that final 5 minutes. We actually looked like SEC champs those final 5 minutes. The defense was fearless and we ran the court very well.
MSTATEGLFR....I can see where looking at the stats might seems as if Jamont had a bad game. However, he was one of the better players today. He penetrated the lane at will and tried to get others involved in the offense but his passes was not always handle well. Jarvis played like an all SEC center. He blocked shots, he rebounded well and had great "D" without fouling.

In my opinion I don't think coach Stans was trying to blow this team out but finding where his guys best fit and who's going to be able to help come regular season. He used Barry Stewart at point guard behind Jamont. He gave the freshmen about the same amount of minutes as his starters.

There should not be much weight put behind this game. It was definitely a tune up. Jamont missed a break away dunk. Charles also missed a dunk. Berry Stewart's dunks actually was exciting. He dunked in a crowd with 2 hands. I didn't know Berry had those kind of hops.

Ben did get to the basket a lot but was scripped or should I say fouled. The game wasn't very well officiated as far MSU fans but that should have been expected and no one should be complaining since this was and NAIA school.

I think the exhibition on Tuesday will be more telling of what this team will be all about. Those freshmen has some kind of game experience under there belts and maybe these butterflies out there systems.

Maybe Stans took it easy on his Alma mater.

Screw that oppressive little backwards school!
Their policies against their own students are disgusting and illegal as they receive public money.
I'm glad they lost and I only wish we had blown em out and given them a few Gary Ervin style cupchecks too!

For those that dont know what this is about, google Jason Johnson and Cumberlands.
Just disgusting what that school will do to its own.

When Stans made the mass substitution at the 15:22 mark, and we had an all freshmen team in, the first two trips down the floor were 3 pointers. Frist by Ravern and the second by Phil. Just after this, there was a time out and when they came back out, they didn't attempt anymore 3's. Reckon Stans said something to them in the team huddle during that time out???

The concern I have now is the lack of a shotblocker behind Varnado and Rhodes. However I'm glad that we have Brian Johnson. I think he is a definite "glue" guy that can do the little things to help us win.

The College receives public funding. As a result, they must adhere to the laws concerning race, religion, sexual orientation, age, etc etc.
They chose to ignore the laws and then also change an Honor student's grades to all F's.
This is supposed to be an institution of higher learning with standards and ethics. They obviously chose to ignore those standards in this instance. And they also chose to ignore the law.

you still didn't answer the question. Why was he there to start with if he's gay. Could it be he has an agenda and is not there for schooling but to push the gay lifestyle on an institution that will not accept it and use that for a platform. If that is his plan then he got what he deserved.

oh yea, if Cumberland did everything you and this site states and everything is as it appears then Jason Johnson has an avenue to fight his fight. It's called the court system. If he has been done so bad then follow through or shut up and move on with his life.

Please don't hijack this post with unrelated rhetoric. Also, way to not put a name on your post.

"Yes we should love the sinner but not the sin."

And so the school practices this by taking an Honor student's grades adn changing them all to F's?
How is that still loving the sinner?

Their vile actions were vindictive and not very Christian.

He had his day. Since the school was so obviously guilty, they agreed to change his grades back to what he had actually earned.

An institution of higher learning, no matter what religious affiliation, that receives public funding MUST comply with current state and federal law. They chose to ignore that and discriminate against one of their own students. It's disgusting.

Oh, and it need not matter why he chose the school in the first place. I'm sure that had he known they would treat him this way before enrolling, he would have not gone there. Do you really expect him to have known how he would be treated? I personally would not ever expect a college to react this way.

I'm very sorry that you and the young man didn't/don't realize that there is real difficulty associated with ignoring or rejecting God's rules.

We can all claim governmental legal support but it doesn't alter right and wrong.

I hope he gets his life together, but the school had every right to expel him.
