Full Court Press 11/1/07

The ball is in your court, can you take it?

Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Here’s one that shouldn’t be too hard:

My prediction for starting line-up on Saturday with subs.

C- Varnado
PF- Rhodes
Wing- Stewart
Wing- Hansborough
PG- Gordon

1st subs in B Johnson and Turner for Varnado and Stewart

2d sub Augustus for Rhodes

Turner and Stewart rotate in behind Gordon as the primary ball handler
Gordon rotates down to the 4 on occasion and Rhodes slides to the 5

The rest sub in as the situation allows.

I think some people have overlooked Ravern since it has been said that he has to get stronger and learn to play better defense, but I do recall hearing the same thing about Stewart last year as well. I think this kid is going to come in to his own about halfway through the non-conference season and we will see him shine.

What are the chances we have practically every seat filled on the 10th? Surely we can get enough with all the people there for the Bama game.

Ravern has the ability to come through, just needs to continue learning, and making the necessary adjustments. He's very talented and will continue to improve. Stansbury has seen him in practice, ect. and is very high on him. Without the freshmen, Mississippi State is left with mostly small guys defending at the 3 spot, and are set to face teams in the SEC alone, with tall offensively skilled players Arkansas(6-6 Sonny Weems), Alabama(6-7 Michail Riley),Alabama(6-5,6-6 Raymond Gee), Vanderbilt(6-5,6-6 Shan Foster),
Tennessee(Tyler Smith 6-6,6-7). Auburn and LSU have tall 3's, Also, Floirda has tall talented prospects at the 3. Florida. Many more of these types and taller in the league and non conference. Im not saying that these smaller guys can't guard the taller guys but having some big guys that can defend/help defend these type players ect. can be used/help. Augustus, Ravern and Riley can all help out.

I know. Mykal Riley's name is spelled wrong in my comments, and I spelled it again.

BTW, to me it seems that the past few years going now, Stansbury's offence doesn't seem to run a strict 1-2-3-4-5-type scheme. To me, looks like the system runs a point, two wing shooter-types, and two definite forward-types, without a true center. Frankly, I really like this kind look, which a lot of folks call "playing small," because you end up with someone like Stewart or Hansbrough guarding some of the tall 3s that jdelta mentioned earlier. (Heck, remember Dietric guarding Joakim Noah last year, and effectively at that!)

However, you gain shooting prowess, plus the ability to slash past a larger guy. I really like this look, though it can be a tad predictable, especially when you come around to the SEC tourney and are playing the same team for the third time that year.

However, things change when you can land a 6'6" or 6'7" guy that can shoot and slash, which is what a couple of the 'freshmens' are supposed to be noted for. Now you seem to match up better on defense, while not needing to modify your offense significantly.

I LOVE where this program is going.

Look for us to break our exhibition game attendance record saturday. No football game, all eyes on the ballers this weekend.

People are excited about the Bulldogs, and for good reason.

I hear what you say about "playing small", but 3 of the 4 teams in the 2007 Final Four had big ( and athletic) post players.
